Only about 38,000 runners are allowed into the NYC Marathon entry pool and the lottery today pulled those entry names. The New York City Marathon started with a group of 40 runners getting together to start the New York Road Runners in 1958. The race covers all five boroughs in New York City and is one of the most popular marathons in the world.
